Sabine Moritz

The exhibition "Sabine Moritz. Lobeda or the Reconstruction of a World" is dedicated to the work of the internationally renowned artist Sabine Moritz, who was born in Quedlinburg, with a focus on her early Lobeda series of works. Sabine Moritz began working on the group of works presented here as early as 1991. The series, comprising more than 150 drawings, was created from memory and focuses on the living environment in the prefabricated concrete slab city of Neu-Lobeda in Jena, where the artist lived from 1973 to 1981. The Lobeda series is an autobiographical search, a work of artistic field research and memory: it describes both the attempt to comprehensively capture life in Lobeda and the sounding out of memory processes, from the personal to the collective. The Lobeda theme appears again and again in various formal versions in Moritzs work: in oil or acrylic paintings, on paper and on canvas as well as in photographs.
